Spirulina Supplements

If there’s one super-food that you should be eating, it’s spirulina. Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. It’s a one-celled form of algae primarily made from two species of cyanobacteria: Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima .

Spirulina is harvested and converted into a powdered form and sold as a health supplement. It’s a whole food from which you can still get all of the original benefits–even in the supplement form. It’s thought of by many as one of the healthiest and most biologically complete food sources in the world.

Since I’ve started using my spirulina supplement, I feel better than ever. If you don’t have time to eat all of your vegetables, spirulina is a fast and easy way to get a whole days worth of vitamins and minerals in a spoonful. You can mix it with water, juice, or throw it in a health shake.

Some people are probably worried about the taste, but there’s no need to be. It doesn’t taste great by any means, but the flavor is not very strong at all. If you mix it with something, you won’t even taste it. I personally don’t even mind just mixing it with water. It has a very “healthy” taste, as you would expect.

Spirulina Nutrition

Spirulina is over 60% protein and contains a complete amino acid profile. This means that it is an extremely high-quality form of protein. Spirulina is rich in B vitamins (especially B12, which is normally only found in animal tissues), essential fatty acids, and vitamins D, A, E and C. It is also a good source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, manganese, sodium, phosphorus, selenium, iron, and zinc.

Spirulina Benefits

Spirulina is known to help support eye health, increased energy, increased immune function, and healthy cholesterol levels. Spirulina has been known to boost immune function, protect against allergic reactions, and have antivirus and anticancer properties. Spirulina has even been tested for its properties to improve patients with a range of different diseases from HIV to cancer to liver disorders.

Buy Spirulina

Spirulina can be contaminated by heavy metals which is why it’s important to buy a high quality product. Below are a couple of choices for pure, high quality, all-natural spirulina supplements.

Hawaiian Spirulina

Pure Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is a trusted manufacturer of spirulina. They make superior, all natural spirulina, and you can buy their product almost anywhere because it’s so popular. This brand is so potent, it will turn your glass green. That should be a positive though. This is the brand that I am currently using, and I highly recommend it.

Organic Spirulina

The Hawaiian Pacifica brand is a little more expensive. If you want to get something that costs a little less, Organic Spirulina Powder can be purchased from Amazon quite a bit cheaper.
