Muscle Milk by Cytosport
Muscle Milk is a commercially-popular protein powder that’s also available as a RTD protein shake. Many people buy Muscle Milk because they have heard the name or they know someone who has used it. Recently though, more people are realizing that there are healthier protein powders on the market.
My Problems with Muscle Milk
My main problems with Muscle Milk are that it has too much saturated fat and sugar. On top of that, it’s largely comprised of a less pure form of protein called whey concentrate. Muscle Milk is approximately 80% whey concentrates and 20% whey isolates. Whey isolates are more pure than whey concentrates, so ideally, you want your protein powder to be almost wholly comprised of whey isolates. Muscle Milk falls short in this right.
Many people enjoy the taste of Muscle Milk and I believe that’s why so many continue to buy it. I’ve used Muscle Milk many times myself and I can agree that it tastes like a milkshake. If you want something that’s merely delicious, I can’t argue with buying Muscle Milk. However, there are other protein powders on the market that taste very good. Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard has an entire list of great tasting flavors. Click here to see my top five protein powders. Each of them is top quality. In my opinion, Optimum 100% Whey Gold Standard is easily one of the best protein powders available, and it’s a great value, which is why I always recommend it. If you have your heart set on Muscle Milk, then by all means, give it a shot. It will definitely help you build muscle and it tastes great. There are just healthier, more effective options available to you.
