Crossfit Workouts

Crossfit is a type of exercise that combines cardio, muscle strength and endurance, and overall power. It’s probably one of the most difficult and exhausting types of workout that you can possibly do. The men and women that compete in crossfit are some of the fittest athletes in the world. If you ever watch the crossfit games, you’ll be able to see what I mean. Crossfit can include anything from swimming to running to deadlifts to rowing to jump roping. Cross fit is all about doing functional exercises to build functional strength and fitness. It is very different from bodybuilding, powerlifting, marathon running or any other type of fitness although it may include exercises from each or any of these categories.

For example, a crossfit workout might include 100 push-ups, 50 pull-ups, 200 body-weight squats, a swim, and a run that is a couple miles long! The key to crossfit is that the athletes keep moving and avoid taking breaks. They go from one exercise right to the next one with minimal downtime between sets. This provides them with cardio benefit and it increases muscle endurance while building strength at the same time. In the crossfit games, the athlete that completes the course in the shortest time wins.

Part of crossfit is doing power exercises such as clean jerks, squats, power cleans and overhead squats. When doing these types of exercises the athletes try to compete as many repetitions in as short amount of time as possible. For someone who is only looking to build up strength this would not be the ideal way to workout, however, crossfit workouts will get you in better overall shape than any other type of workout.

The athletes that compete in crossfit are strong, extremely lean, have great cardio and have very defined muscles. If you’re someone who thinks that this type of workout is something you can handle, there are crossfit gyms across the country where you can sign-up. Crossfit gyms offer extra support and coaching and have other athletes that are doing the same type of workouts, so it can be much easier getting started. However, you don’t need a crossfit gym to do a crossfit workout. You can watch the principles of a crossfit workout on a video, or simply watch the crossfit games on television so you can see exactly how it’s done.

If you would like to have an extremely high level of overall fitness then I highly recommend crossfit. It does take time to build up to the workout level of experienced crossfit athletes. It’s a very mental type of exercise because your brain will be telling you to stop, but you’ll have to push past that urge and keep going.

Here’s a good video video so you can see crossfit in action
