Benefits of Vitamin C Supplements

You can never have too much Vitamin C. It’s one of those vitamins with a list of benefits that’s endless. We all know that Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins for boosting immune function, but did you know it can even protect against cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling?

In fact, Vitamin C has even been used in hospitals as a cancer treatment at extremely high doses of 100,000 mg – 250,000 mg! That would be the equivalent of taking 100- 200 Vitamin C pills in one sitting. Vitamin C has proved to be toxic to cancer cells at these extremely high doses.

Vitamin C is an extremely diverse vitamin in all the ways that it can help heal and protect the body and improve overall health. Studies have shown that it can reduce inflammation and reduce the rick of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects against free radicals and pollutants that can cause cancer.

The immune system can become weakened due to stress and other factors such as improper diet. When this happens, Vitamin C stores are depleted, as it is a very “stress sensitive” vitamin. This means it is extremely important to make sure you are getting plenty of Vitamin C during stressful times, or you risk getting sick.

Some foods that are high in Vitamin C include cantaloupe, orange juice, tomato juice, berries, citrus fruits, kiwi, and broccoli. It’s always best to get your vitamins from food sources, but many people don’t get enough Vitamin C and other vitamins from their diet, that’s why I always recommend taking a multivitamin to fill any nutritional gaps that you may have in your diet. Vitamin C is a vitamin that I personally use because I would rather have extra Vitamin C in my system than not enough, especially considering all of the benefits it has to offer. Not to mention, I don’t like getting sick very much and a high concentration of Vitamin C in the blood will keep the immune system functioning at its peak.

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, which means your body removes unnecessary amounts from your system, so you cannot overdose.  However, you shouldn’t take more than 5 grams per day because higher doses can lead to nausea and upset stomach.
